Industrial pendants strip lighting back to its essentials. Raw metal finishes, cage shades, exposed hardware, and Edison-style bulbs deliver a utilitarian aesthetic that works as well in a kitchen as it does in a loft, restaurant, or home office. These fixtures make no attempt to hide what they are, and that material honesty is exactly the point.

Single industrial pendants work over kitchen islands, bar counters, and reading nooks. Cluster three or five together over a dining table for a statement installation that feels collected rather than matched. Linear multi-pendant arrangements cover long countertops and open shelving runs without the bulk of a traditional chandelier. Most ship with adjustable cord or rod lengths, so vaulted ceilings and standard 8-foot rooms are equally well served.

We carry industrial pendants from Hinkley Lighting, Mullan Lighting, Troy Lighting, Hubbardton Forge, Maxim Lighting, and Artcraft Lighting. Free shipping on orders over $199 across Canada.

Buying guide
How to Choose Industrial Pendants

Getting industrial pendants right comes down to scale, spacing, and drop length. Nail those three and the rest falls into place.

Size it to the space
A single pendant over a kitchen island should measure roughly one-third the island length. For dining tables, aim for one large pendant or a cluster of smaller ones spanning two-thirds the table width. In general, one 8-10 inch pendant per 2 linear feet of counter or table works well.
Set the drop length
Over a kitchen counter or island, hang the bottom of the pendant 28 to 36 inches above the surface. Over a dining table, 30 to 36 inches above the tabletop. In open spaces with no furniture below, keep the bottom at least 7 feet from the floor. Most industrial pendants include adjustable cord or rod so you can dial in the exact height.
Match the finish to the room
Matte black reads strongest against white walls, concrete, and light wood. Aged bronze and brushed steel work in warmer, earthier palettes. If your kitchen hardware or plumbing fixtures are already in a specific finish, carry that finish into your pendant selection for a cohesive look.
Cluster for impact
Industrial pendants often look better in groups than alone. Three pendants in a tight cluster over a dining table, or five staggered at different drop lengths over a bar, create a collected installation that a single large fixture cannot replicate. Use the same model at different heights or mix complementary styles within the same finish family.

Common questions
Industrial Pendants FAQ
What defines an industrial pendant?
Industrial pendants emphasize raw materials and functional construction. Common features include cage or wire shades, exposed Edison-style bulbs, pipe-threaded canopies, and finishes like matte black, aged bronze, and brushed steel. The aesthetic borrows from factory and warehouse lighting — honest, durable, and unpretentious.
How many industrial pendants do I need over a kitchen island?
Plan for one pendant per 2 linear feet of island. A 4-foot island takes two 8-10 inch pendants spaced evenly. A 6-foot island takes three. If you prefer a single larger pendant, choose one that spans roughly one-third the island length and hang it centered above the work surface.
Can industrial pendants work in spaces that are not kitchens or lofts?
Yes. Industrial pendants work in dining rooms, home offices, bedrooms, and commercial spaces including restaurants, cafes, and retail environments. The key is pairing them with other raw or natural materials such as exposed wood, concrete, brick, or leather so the industrial finish feels intentional rather than accidental.
Are industrial pendants dimmable?
Most industrial pendants are compatible with dimmable bulbs and a standard dimmer switch. Fixtures with integrated LED modules will specify dimmer compatibility in the product details. For best results with LED bulbs, use a trailing-edge dimmer to prevent flickering at low levels.
What bulb type works best with industrial pendants?
Edison-style filament bulbs (ST19, ST21, G40, or A19 with visible filament) are the classic pairing for industrial pendants with open cage or exposed-socket designs. They produce warm 2200-2700K light that suits the aesthetic. For enclosed shades, standard A19 LED bulbs in 2700K work well and offer better efficiency.
