A picture light draws the eye to what matters — a painting, print, or framed piece — with focused, even light that lifts the artwork off the wall. Mounted just above the frame, a picture light adds gallery-quality presentation to a living room, hallway, or study, and doubles as a warm accent in the evening. Our range spans hardwired and plug-in models, cordless battery options, and classic brass finishes alongside modern designs.
Picture lights also suit lighting mirrors, bookcases, and architectural details. Explore related fixtures in our wall sconces and illuminated mirrors collections.

Hardwired, Plug-In & Cordless Picture Lights
Hardwired & Plug-In Picture Lights
Hardwired picture lights connect into the wall for a clean, cord-free look and are ideal in new construction or a planned installation. Plug-in models offer the same focused light with easier installation — no electrician required — making them a flexible choice for renters or changing displays.
Cordless & Battery Picture Lights
Battery-powered picture lights install anywhere without wiring, letting you light a piece exactly where you want it and move it as your display changes. Rechargeable LED models offer the convenience of no cords with efficient, low-heat light.
Brass & Finishes
Picture lights come in a range of finishes — classic brass and antique tones for traditional interiors, and matte black, nickel, and bronze for contemporary spaces — so the fixture complements both the artwork and the room.
Picture Light FAQs
What is a picture light?
A picture light is a slim fixture mounted just above (or occasionally below) a piece of art to illuminate it evenly. It provides focused accent light that makes a painting, print, or photograph stand out, and adds a warm, gallery-style glow to the wall. Picture lights also work well over mirrors and bookcases.
What size picture light do I need for my artwork?
As a general guide, choose a picture light roughly one-half to two-thirds the width of the artwork (including the frame) so the light spreads evenly without spilling past the edges. A 40-inch-wide piece pairs well with a light in the 20 to 26-inch range. Center the light over the piece for balanced illumination.
What’s the difference between hardwired, plug-in, and battery picture lights?
Hardwired lights connect into the wall for a cord-free look but need wiring (best for new builds or an electrician-assisted install). Plug-in lights use a visible cord to a nearby outlet and install easily. Battery/cordless lights need no wiring at all and can go anywhere — ideal for renters and displays that change.
Will a picture light damage my artwork?
Modern LED picture lights run cool and emit little to no UV, making them far safer for artwork than older incandescent or halogen fixtures, which produced more heat. For valuable or delicate original art, LED is the recommended choice, and keeping light levels moderate further protects the piece over time.
Are picture lights dimmable?
Many picture lights are dimmable — hardwired and plug-in models with a compatible dimmable bulb and dimmer, and many cordless LED models via a built-in control. Dimming lets you set the accent level to suit the room and time of day. Check the individual product for its dimming method.
