Holmegaard

Fensmark, Denmark

Holmegaard has shaped Danish glass for two centuries. Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe founded the glassworks in 1825 in Fensmark, Denmark, beside the Holmegaard bog, where peat fuelled the first furnaces. What began with green bottles grew into fine table glass, guided by the belief that every Dane should own a beautiful drinking glass. Today Holmegaard is part of Rosendahl Design Group, and Montreal Lighting & Hardware carries a curated selection of its stemware, carafes, lanterns and Christmas collections for Canadian homes.

The brand's design legacy runs through generations of glassmakers. Jacob E. Bang joined as the first in-house designer in the 1920s, and Per Lütken created more than 3,000 designs between 1942 and 1998, including the No. 5 series. Contemporary designers carry that tradition forward: Peter Svarrer's Cabernet collection, Tom Nybroe's Perfection and Notes stemware, and Maria Berntsen's Design With Light lanterns pair Scandinavian restraint with glass made for the table. From everyday tumblers to the annual Christmas editions, Holmegaard brings clarity, proportion and quiet warmth to dining rooms, home bars and holiday settings.
