Pair of Sparrows Wooden Figurine Set

Kay Bojesen was a Danish silversmith who trained under Georg Jensen and later turned to wood. In the 1930s he began carving wooden figures and toys in Copenhagen, guided by the idea that lines should smile and that his objects should have life, warmth and a heart. His teak and limba monkey, designed in 1951, was exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and remains a classic of Danish design. In 1990 Rosendahl took over the rights to his wooden animals, and today Kay Bojesen is part of Rosendahl Design Group alongside Rosendahl, Holmegaard and Lyngby Porcelæn. Montreal Lighting & Hardware carries a curated selection of Kay Bojesen figurines, Christmas figures, bag charms and baby gifts for Canadian homes.

The collection is a small wooden zoo. The jointed monkey comes in sizes from mini to large, joined by the oak elephant, the oak and maple bear, hippos, dogs, horses, a zebra and a rabbit, along with songbirds, lovebirds and puffins in painted beech. Seasonal figures such as Santa Claus, the skiers Boje and Datti, and Christmas Ole and Lise bring the same warmth to the holidays, and the beech rocking horse, rattle and mobile make lasting gifts for a new baby. Simple shapes, natural wood and a sense of humour make Kay Bojesen pieces easy to love at any age.
